Compact Deep-Textured “Scale Weight” Wenwan Walnut Pair — 37.0mm x 40.0mm | PT-17D3

A distinctive “Scale Weight” Wenwan walnut pair with compact proportions, a tapered upper profile, and dense natural texture. Measuring 37.0mm x 40.0mm, the pair has a full lower body that rises toward a more pointed top, creating the characteristic weighted, drop-like silhouette associated with this form.

The shells show pronounced central ridges surrounded by deep grooves, layered folds, and irregular recessed texture. From the front, both walnuts present a strong vertical structure; from the top and side views, their broader bodies and radiating ridge pattern become more apparent.

The two pieces are closely coordinated in height, width, body volume, ridge placement, and warm shell tone, giving the pair a balanced overall appearance.

This is a one-of-one listing. The pair shown in the photographs is the pair you will receive.

The Story of the Form

The Chinese collector name “Cheng Tuo”  refers to the traditional weight used with an old-style balance or steelyard scale.

This walnut form earns the nickname from its naturally compact, weight-like silhouette: broader through the lower body and gradually narrowing toward the upper point. The shape gives the pair a grounded, substantial appearance despite its manageable dimensions.

Each shell develops a strong vertical center surrounded by dense folds and recessed valleys. The texture becomes increasingly complex toward the middle and lower portions of the body, while the pointed upper structure keeps the overall silhouette visually defined.

At 37.0mm x 40.0mm, the pair combines compact handling dimensions with a substantial, sculptural presence.

Product Characteristics

• Distinctive Scale Weight profile: Broad lower bodies taper upward into a more defined point.
• Compact substantial proportions: 37.0mm x 40.0mm dimensions provide a full-bodied feel without becoming oversized.
• Deep natural texture: Layered grooves, folds, and recessed valleys create strong three-dimensional detail.
• Pronounced central structure: Raised vertical ridges give both walnuts a defined and balanced appearance.
• Radiating ridge pattern: Viewed from above, the shell structure spreads outward from the central line.
• Well-matched pair: Both walnuts show closely coordinated dimensions, body fullness, ridge development, and shell tone.

Care

These walnuts have already been pre-cleaned and base-brushed. During the first month, store them in a sealed bag when they are not being handled, allowing them to acclimatize gradually to your environment.

Handle them with clean, dry, bare hands and brush the grooves gently with a clean, dry walnut brush. Pay particular attention to the deeper recessed texture around the central ridges, where dust can naturally collect.

Keep them away from water, oil, direct heat, and prolonged sunlight.
