“Hundred Beasts” Tian Can Jiao Wenwan Walnut Pair | Wild Sculptural Form | 39.0mm × 43.0mm | BSTC-C1D7E

Product Description

This single-inventory listing features the exact pair of Wenwan walnuts shown in the product gallery.

Stock ID BSTC-C1D7E measures 39.0mm × 43.0mm and belongs to the highly unconventional Tian Can Jiao form. This pair is especially distinctive for its broad, twisted structure, heavily layered ridges, and irregular natural silhouette.

The name “Hundred Beasts” comes from the visual character of the surface. From different angles, the overlapping folds, cavities, and raised sections create constantly changing, almost creature-like forms. Rather than presenting a conventional upright walnut profile, this pair feels more like a pair of naturally formed miniature sculptures.

Both walnuts share the same broad architecture and highly expressive texture while retaining the individual asymmetry that gives this type of pair its character.

The Story of the Form

Tian Can Jiao walnuts are collected for forms that sit far outside the conventional standards of symmetry and upright proportions.

This pair pushes that character even further.

Its surfaces twist and fold into one another, producing deep valleys, raised ridges, and unusually open structures. Depending on the viewing angle, different shapes seem to emerge from the shell—giving rise to the “Hundred Beasts” nickname.

The appeal here is not perfect uniformity. It is the opposite: natural irregularity, movement, and individuality.

At 43mm in its larger dimension, the pair has enough physical presence for these unusual structural details to remain visually prominent both in hand and on display.

Product Characteristics

Highly Sculptural Structure
Large folds and irregular ridges create a three-dimensional form that changes noticeably with viewing angle.

Deep Natural Cavities
The surface contains pronounced recessed areas that add considerable depth and shadow.

Broad, Unconventional Profile
The body spreads outward rather than following the typical upright Wenwan silhouette.

Expressive Natural Asymmetry
Each walnut has its own individual architecture while maintaining a convincing overall pairing.

Strong Display Character
The unusual form makes this pair especially suited to collectors who prefer distinctive specimens over conventional shapes.

Care

Keep the walnuts dry and avoid sudden changes in temperature or humidity.

Use a clean Wenwan brush regularly, paying particular attention to the deeper cavities and overlapping folds where dust can collect.

Avoid soaking, chemical cleaners, and excessive oiling. Natural handling and regular brushing will gradually highlight the raised areas and deepen the contrast within the texture.
