[About the Three-Ridge Angry Bird Variety]
The "Three-Ridge Angry Bird" (Sanleng Fengnu De Dashiao) variety is a prized rare mutation within scholar walnut culture. While standard walnuts naturally form two opposing ridges, a true three-ridge specimen develops three distinct structural ribs radiating from the crown down to the base. Named "Angry Bird" for its bold, expressive face contours and sharp, dramatic crown profile that resembles an aggressive avian crest, this variety is celebrated for its dense, deep-grooved texture and unique tactile feeling in the palm.
[Characteristics of SNDL-CWA0E]
- True Three-Ridge Mutation: Features three evenly spaced main ridges creating a well-balanced triangular cross-section across both nuts.
- Expressive Angry Bird Contour: Showcases steep, sweeping top shoulders and dramatic high-relief ridges that create an intense, sculpted visual profile.
- Elongated Proportions: Measuring 31.0mm in width and 49.0mm in height, this pair presents a tall, elegant silhouette ideal for smooth, fluid rotation in the hand.
- High-Density Mountain Timber: Heavy, solid wood construction with tight fiber structure, producing a crisp, resonant acoustic chime during manual handling.
[Basic Care & Aging Info]
This collectible pair is cultivated exclusively for hand-play (pan) and cultural appreciation. Through regular contact with clean hands or cotton gloves, the timber gradually absorbs natural skin oils, undergoing oxidation to develop a glassy, deep mahogany patina over time.
-
Artisan Coloration Tip: Clean the deep three-ridge channels and sculpted facial grooves regularly with a stiff nano-bristle or horsehair brush after each session. Storing the walnuts in a sealed pouch when not in use helps maintain balanced internal humidity, preventing fine cracks while enhancing the depth of the aging process.

Incredible service, I ordered a pair that sadly could not be shipped on account of a website error. Normally that would be a red flag; in this case however, an agent reached out to me immediately, allowed me to pick out an even higher quality pair and included some very thoughtful gifts. I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase and what started out as a mistake will have me returning here first whenever I want to expand my collection.
Class acts!
I ordered my Wenwans about 13 days ago. After contacting this company about a shipping issue they were able to solve it immediately as well as to rush the order. Literally just got mine today and they are absolutely gorgeous and very large! My Pair# is DGM-901. These are my very first high grades ones. Bought some crappy amazon ones for like 6 bucks to practice. I cannot wait to start my journey with these. I highly recommend this company for their outstanding customer service and quality control!
Thank you!
This company is Stellar. I’ve enjoyed the products I’ve Boughten for myself and gifts Ives given.
Love that you have miniature walnuts for those of us who have small hands.
These guys a great. Walnuts are high quality, and what you see is what you get, no random pairs that you may not like.
I've got 5 pairs off of them so far, and none have any flaws: no yellowing, pin holes, worm marks or cracks.
I'm not an expert, but I can't detect any dyes or processing on the nuts I have received.
They get back to you quickly if you have questions or issues.
Shipping is a couple weeks to canada since its off shore orgin. No big deal.
I do wish they would post the weights of the pairs as well in the listings, but this is minor.
I consider Zenwalnut to be the best north american walnut vendor hands down.
The box it came with is great and well made. The walnuts are out of this world. I don’t know how you find a three ridge mutation (Spartan motif) with such a good pairing. Even the basins complement each other, one elavated and the other depressed so they fit together. I highly recommend this seller if you want a reliable place where you can find rare, high quality walnuts. What you see in the pictures and videos is what you get. These are my second pair from zenwalnuts and I love both of them, thank you
The first pair I bought was a pair of minis, Packaging was amazing! Display case, and brushes were all under $100. I've been using them for just over a week. Excellent quality, I have dropped them once on accident of course over concrete while outside on the patio. I was quite concerned, I gave them a look over and no cracks, chips, or scratches were found. I am now looking into higher valued pairs. I will be buying other pairs for birthday gifts and collections. I posted them on FB and will continue to keep updates of the transformation every so often.
